Wireless Internet
Free! All you need is your wireless-enabled laptop and a browser application to log onto the FPPL network. This is a public, unsecured connection, so users should be especially cautious when sending senstive information (credit card numbers, etc.) over the internet. Please be aware that the library does not offer hardware support. If you need help setting up your laptop for wireless access, you’ll need to contact the manufacturer directly.
Adult Services Computers
There are six public access Adult Services computers. A sign-up station near the computers assigns PCs and maintains a waiting list if all PCs are in use. Session length is one hour, and can be extended up to three hours per day if there is no-one waiting to use the computers. You'll need to have your library card with you to sign up.
Both color and black-and-white printing is available, at 50 cents/page for color and 10 cents/page for black-and-white. Printing fees are drawn from a special account tied to your library card. You can add money to this account at the reference desk, and any unused funds will be stored on your card.
Use Requirements:
- Forest Park Library card in good standing
- Patrons must be 14 and up
- Parental/Guardian signature is required for patrons 14-18
The Library also provides two computers for visitors' use. These PCs don't require a library card, and allow out-of-town or short-term users 15 minute sessions. Only black-and-white printing is available on the visitor's PCs.
The public access computers are to be used solely “at your own risk”. For example, files saved to the hard drive may be deleted at any time; there is no guarantee of personal privacy, and you should be extremely careful about revealing credit card, financial, or other personal information. There is no guarantee that our virus scan will detect every virus.
Assistive Technology for our Blind and Visually Impaired Patrons
The library is working hard to ensure that all our patrons are able to benefit from our public computers. One of our workstations is set up with an extra-large monitor, and the Zoomtext magnification software installed on this computer will enlarge the screen (and, optionally, act as a limited screen reader). The capabilities of this computer continue to be expanded, so please check with the reference desk to see what services are currently offered!
Youth Services Computers
There are five Internet computers available in the Youth Services Department, located across from the YS Service Desk. Children must have parental authorization to access these computers, and they must have a Forest Park Library card in good standing. Session length is one hour, and can be extended up to three hours per day if there is no-one waiting to use the computers
There are also two Early Literacy Stations, which are designed to meet the needs of toddlers and preschoolers. Each station is packed with fun and educational games that will entertain children while teaching them important technological and literacy skills.
